Release: (Un) Bidden by Melissa Haag

(Un) Bidden by Melissa Haag
Release Day Blitz
November 24, 2014

I left home because I didn’t want to end up in a cage like a lab rat. Hitching rides, begging for cash, and sleeping on the ground got old fast. That was the only reason I braved an overgrown path to a group of buildings. I’d hoped to find a bed and a decent night’s sleep. However, what I found was a place overrun by werewolves.

While on the run, Charlene finds herself surrounded by werewolves, creatures she can’t control with her mind like she can humans. Their existence has her believing she’s found a safe place to stay, a place where secrets are okay. However, she soon discovers she’s anything but safe. Charlene must learn how to use her abilities to influence the strange new species because if she can’t, the next bite she suffers might just kill her.

Read how the cycle begins, and have no doubt. Charlene’s past will shape the future of the Judgements.

Have you read the first book, Hope(less), in the series? It’s currently FREE!

Gabby's brain is like a human fish finder. It comes in handy when she wants to avoid people. Mostly men. They seem to like her a bit too much. It's lonely being different, but she's adapted to it. Really. She just wishes she knew why she is different, though.

In her search for answers, she discovers a hidden community of werewolves. She immerses herself in their culture, learning about their world until she meets Clay. He's unkempt, prone to mood swings, intense without saying a word, and he thinks Gabby is his.

It's going to take every trick she knows to convince Clay to go away, and every bit of willpower not to fall for him when she discovers the man beneath the rough exterior.

Delve into a riveting world of werewolves and young women with unexplained abilities, in Hope(less).

Tour - Review - Giveaway: Afterworld Series by Karice Bolton

Afterworld Series by Karice Bolton

New Adult, Post-Apocalyptic

Scientists are the new rock stars. The infection has been contained for nearly three months, and the world is celebrating. But humans are still dying. Rebekah Taylor has seen it firsthand. Her husband was killed right in front of her by the very creatures that humans were told they no longer had to fear.

Rebekah is determined to find out who is responsible for the death of her husband and the obvious cover-up. Fueled with revenge, she begins to find answers that lead to one frightening conclusion. The apocalypse might be over, but the battles are just beginning.

I really wanted to love this book, but for me it was just okay. I am a huge zombie novel fan and so when I saw this synopsis, I jumped at the chance to review it. I had such high hopes for this one and judging by other reviews, I'm pretty sure this is one of those "it's me, not you" scenarios. It's not you, Recruitz, the issue lies with me.

The story started off with lots of action. Rebekah and her husband, Gavin, are stuck in their car during a zombie attack. The weird thing about the attack was that the zombies were specifically targeting Gavin and didn't really pay any attention to Rebekah. This caught my attention and raised my expectations for this book. However, I had trouble connecting with Rebekah. I'm not sure why. I don't have any real reason, but nonetheless.

HOWEVER, I loved Preston. He was sweet and manly. I was a bit miffed that he was lying to Rebekah for a while, but when he explained himself I could kind of understand why. It didn't excuse it but I understood.

Ironically (or maybe the better word would be horrifically) enough, my favorite parts were the zombie cage fighting and when Rebekah was put in the cage with a zombie and had to fight him without any weapons. That was really cool.

I think maybe it just wasn't the right time for me to read this book. This book had more mystery and suspense than I usually read and so maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it. I haven't written off the series yet because...well...ZOMBIES! I freaking love zombie books, but I'm just kind of on the fence on this one.

The outbreak might be over, but the nightmare is just beginning...

Rebekah vows to expose the truth behind the RecruitZ that are killing the innocents. These creatures must be stopped, but so should the people controlling them. When Rebekah uncovers who is behind the uprisings, her own life becomes in danger.

Rebekah knows that she is not alone in this fight but vengeance alone won't help her and the others to victory. It is up to her to uncover the truth for the public before the world is turned over to an elite few.

Regardless of what may happen to her, she knows it's a race against time to destroy these creatures and the monsters controlling them before there is no one left worth saving.

Review: Protecting Alabama by Susan Stoker

Protecting Alabama by Susan Stoker
Book 2 in the Seal of Protection series

Alabama didn’t have a good start to life. Emotionally and physically abused by her mama, Alabama spent her high school years in foster care. People let her down, time after time, and she’d learned to rely on only herself.

Christopher “Abe” Powers earned his nickname because he tolerated nothing less than absolute honesty from the people around him. Finding the bar scene stale and having watched his friend and teammate, Wolf, find the woman of his dreams, Abe was determined to find someone to share his life with too.

Alabama and Abe had no idea their paths would cross and their prayers would be answered, but like most things in life, nothing is ever as easy as it seems at first. Two words would change both their lives and they’d have to fight hard for their happy ever after.

**Protecting Alabama is the 2nd book in the SEAL of Protection Series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s recommended you read the books in order to get maximum enjoyment out of the series.

Susan Stoker is officially on my Automatic Reads List (aka Hell Yes Gimme Gimme Reads List), but she is also on notice. Stop making me cry so much, woman!! Okay, let me see if I can form some coherent thoughts and throw together a somewhat sensible review. I can't make any promises, though. It seems I have leaked all of my intellect out of my tear ducts. This review will probably be riddled with tons of gifs.

Protecting Alabama takes you on an emotional roller coaster. I went into it expecting an action packed romance like Protecting Caroline, but instead I got a story full of sweet love, betrayal, heartache, and redemption. I was a complete mess for more than half of it.

I could already tell, just by the prologue, that I was going to be a hot mess for the entirety of this book. It starts off giving us various glimpses at the abuse that Alabama suffered at the hands of her mother. As a mom of 3, I just couldn't wrap my mind around doing something like that. By page 3 I was a goner. As a result of this abuse, Alabama grows up to be a timid but sweet, withdrawn woman. She lives in constant paranoia keeps to herself. She's come to accept that she can trust or rely on no one but herself. It's a tragic way to live.

Christopher "Abe" Powers is just plain amazing. He has some scars of his own thanks to his deadbeat father, but because of that he is extremely protective of his family. He goes above and beyond to take care of his mom and two sisters, and then later down the line, Alabama. Oh, and of course he is a ripped Navy SEAL.

Alabama and Abe meet at Abe's Flavor-of-the-Month's work party. Well, I can't say Flavor-of-the-Month is accurate, because he dated Adelaide for a couple of months, but she wasn't anything serious. Adelaide was pretty on the outside but downright nasty on the inside. She only wants to be with Abe because he is a SEAL.

Anywho, they're at the party, there's a fire, and Alabama ends up getting Abe, Adelaide, and a few others to safety. She's the company janitor and knew of an alternate exit. I'm starting to see a trend in Mizz Stoker's books that I LOVE. She writes these amazing, self-sacrificing, heroines who saves their male counterparts' lives. I love it. Love it. Love it. Love it.

The love story build up between Abe and Alabama was so sweet. He courted her like a proper gentleman. A nice chunk of the story was just about them being together. Abe was so gentle and sweet with Alabama. He recognized that she was damaged and yeah...he's just amazing.

One thing that was different about this story than Protecting Caroline was the steeeeeeeeamy scenes. Oh yes my friends, we have sexy times in this book!

Of course, the happy times can't last forever and then we come to Chapter 15. I'm not going to give anything away but oh man. My heart...boom. Gone. I almost stopped reading, I was so upset. I just...I couldn't. How could that happen? And colossal idiot. Why? JUST WHY?!

I pretty much cried the rest of the book. We're talking inconsolable ugly crying. I didn't even try to fight it. I just let the tears flow. Alabama's letter to Abe. The way the team took her in. Wolf's promise to Alabama. The scene between Abe and Caroline.

Seriously, everyone needs to read this book. Just read. Now. Okay? ;-)
