Afterworld Series by Karice Bolton

Genres:
New Adult, Post-Apocalyptic

BOOK 1

SYNOPSIS

Scientists are the new rock stars. The infection has been contained for nearly three months, and the world is celebrating. But humans are still dying. Rebekah Taylor has seen it firsthand. Her husband was killed right in front of her by the very creatures that humans were told they no longer had to fear.

Rebekah is determined to find out who is responsible for the death of her husband and the obvious cover-up. Fueled with revenge, she begins to find answers that lead to one frightening conclusion. The apocalypse might be over, but the battles are just beginning.

*3 STARS*

I really wanted to love this book, but for me it was just okay. I am a huge zombie novel fan and so when I saw this synopsis, I jumped at the chance to review it. I had such high hopes for this one and judging by other reviews, I'm pretty sure this is one of those "it's me, not you" scenarios. It's not you, Recruitz, the issue lies with me.

The story started off with lots of action. Rebekah and her husband, Gavin, are stuck in their car during a zombie attack. The weird thing about the attack was that the zombies were specifically targeting Gavin and didn't really pay any attention to Rebekah. This caught my attention and raised my expectations for this book. However, I had trouble connecting with Rebekah. I'm not sure why. I don't have any real reason, but nonetheless.

HOWEVER, I loved Preston. He was sweet and manly. I was a bit miffed that he was lying to Rebekah for a while, but when he explained himself I could kind of understand why. It didn't excuse it but I understood.

Ironically (or maybe the better word would be horrifically) enough, my favorite parts were the zombie cage fighting and when Rebekah was put in the cage with a zombie and had to fight him without any weapons. That was really cool.

I think maybe it just wasn't the right time for me to read this book. This book had more mystery and suspense than I usually read and so maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it. I haven't written off the series yet because...well...ZOMBIES! I freaking love zombie books, but I'm just kind of on the fence on this one.

BOOK 2

SYNOPSIS

The outbreak might be over, but the nightmare is just beginning...

Rebekah vows to expose the truth behind the RecruitZ that are killing the innocents. These creatures must be stopped, but so should the people controlling them. When Rebekah uncovers who is behind the uprisings, her own life becomes in danger.

Rebekah knows that she is not alone in this fight but vengeance alone won't help her and the others to victory. It is up to her to uncover the truth for the public before the world is turned over to an elite few.

Regardless of what may happen to her, she knows it's a race against time to destroy these creatures and the monsters controlling them before there is no one left worth saving.
