Cover Reveal: Truth or Dare by A.J. Bennett

Check out this lovely cover for Truth or Dare by A.J. Bennett! This book sounds like it's going to be amazing!

Luna Alexander has always been a 'free spirit' and lived by her own rules, consequences be damned. With the approach of an anniversary she'd rather forget, Luna starts to wonder if there's more to life than partying and hooking up with hot guys.

A chance meeting with a dark knight knocks her off kilter and has her emotions spinning out of control.

Will she finally overcome her past for a chance at happiness, or will she hide behind the walls she's built around her?

Feast your eyes on not one, but TWO excerpts!

To her surprise, he strode over to her table, reaching her in several long strides. She couldn’t take her eyes off his tall powerful body.

“Didn’t I already tell you once to buzz off?” Luna glared at him.

Rather than getting pissed off, he seemed amused. The smug look on his face irritated her. Even if it was a face that looked as though it was a masterpiece carved in stone. She noticed a jagged scar above his left eyebrow. It only added to his perfection. He draped his arm across the chair next to her. His causal posture only ticked her off more. He could act a little bit apprehensive.

His cool gaze dropped from her eyes to her mouth, she saw his lips twitch and she wondered what he was thinking. Of course he didn’t stop there, his gaze continued downward and blatantly stared at the tops of her breast that skimmed over her tank top.

“Like what you see?”

He glanced up, his eyes locking on hers. “Me and every other asshole in this bar with a pulse.”

Luna shrugged. Guys liked chicks, period. She wasn’t the only one in the bar and most of the jackasses could care less which one they took home. She doubted anyone in the joint was looking for a life partner. Why did she allow herself to get inebriated? She couldn’t even think of a smartass comeback.

“Do you have a ride home?”

“Yep. What are you like a black knight in shining armor?”

Another half-smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. Apparently, it would kill him to give a full blown smile.

“I don’t rate a white knight?”

Luna shook her head. “Nope, you’re like me. All darkness.”

Her body ached with an irrational need to have him close to her. She noticed several faint silver scars across his back. How had he gotten those? The memory of his reaction to the scar on his stomach stopped her from asking.
Hunter wasn’t prepared to share anything with her other than his body. Understandable, she wasn’t exactly the type to bare her soul either.

She was startled by the realization that she would like to know what secrets he kept hidden underneath his hard exterior. Usually, she could care less about the men she got involved with. But she was intrigued to know what made him tick. What experiences in his past made him who he was today?

On that note, Luna kicked the sheets off her and swung her feet over the bed.

“I guess it’s time forme to get home.”

“Stay the night with me,” he said gruffly without turning.

Thankfully she still had a sane corner in her mind. She shook her head. “I can’t. I have to work in the morning.”

“Call in sick.”

Luna laughed. Why did he have to be so freakin’ gorgeous. It was hard to say no, but she had to remain strong. “I don’t have that luxury.”

He nodded and moved towards her. Reaching down he drew her up, towering over her. “Alright, but I want to see you tomorrow.”

They stared at each other for so long she was beginning to feel uncomfortable. The air between them seemed to thicken making it hard to breath. She knew things were moving too fast, but couldn’t seem to find the words to protest. His fingers closed around the back of her neck and his thumb stroked her collar bone. The tips of her naked breast grazed his firm chest.

“You’re making it hard to leave.”

“Tell me you’ll see me tomorrow.” He cupped her face and gave her a brief, but thorough kiss.

She swallowed visibly and nodded, dropping her head onto his chest moving into the embrace. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Maybe she was reading too much into it. Imagining, he sounded almost desperate to see her again. Why couldn’t she shut off that cynical voice in her head and just enjoy the moment?

Review: Everneath by Brodi Ashton

5 Stars

Everneath caught me totally by surprise. I wasn't sure what I was expecting when I bought it. Honestly, the cover drew me in...again. What can I say? I'm a sucker for a beautiful cover. I never expected to find a story that was beautifully tragic. I couldn't put it down. It took me longer than my norm to finish it, and I think it's because the way Brodi Ashton writes just makes you slow down and absorb every line. This lady can tell a story.

The story tells of the 6 months of Nikki's life after she returns from the Everneath. She only has 6 months before she has to go back, and she is determined not to leave the ones she loves the most the same way as she did last time. She's determined to make up for her sudden disappearance. She desperately wants a chance to say goodbye. This is her plan: be a good daughter, big sister, make sure her family is "okay" before she has to leave again. She'd hoped to get see Jack, her boyfriend, from afar. That's all she wanted.

She didn't count on Cole following her back from the Everneath and stopping at nothing to get her to come back with him. He wants her to help him take over the Everneath. But Nikki won't do that. That would mean she had to be come immortal, an Everling, and feed off of other humans for survival.

She also didn't count on Jack not letting her go.

Seriously. This story was sort of magical, in a dark sort of way. At the start of every chapter there was a countdown of time and a location documented. At first, I thought it was sort of silly, but the more I read the book, it started to make sense. If this were the last 6 months of my life on Earth, I'd be obsessively documenting it too.

Brodi Ashton puts a spin on the time-old Persephone myth that is a must read. You won't be able to put it down.

Review: The Evolution of Mara Dyer

5 Stars

Michelle Hodkin has done it again. She has reached in, grasped my heart, and stolen it. And Noah...oh Noah...

It took me longer than expected to finish this book. I'm not sure if it was just life getting in the way, or if it was me subconsciously dragging it out because I knew that the third book wasn't out yet. The Retribution of Mara Dyer (Goodreads link) isn't due out until June 10, 2014. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to wait that long. Seriously. I'm an impatient person by nature, so this has got me Kermit flailing all over the place!

The Evolution of Mara Dyer picks right back up where The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer left off. It's jam-packed with little twists and turns, just like book 1, and every time Michelle Hodkin gives a glimpse at another piece of info, any assurance that you knew exactly what was happening vanishes. I could not figure out what was going on with Mara or how she and Noah were linked. There's a huge cliff hanger at the end, which leads the reader to believe how/why she and Noah were linked, but I'm not buying it. I believe it goes much deeper than that, but no one knows for sure until book 3 comes out.

I'm still sort of reeling in everything that happened in the book, and I'm finding it hard to form coherent thoughts about it. Suffice to say, I highly recommend it. I

Review: The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

5 Stars
Oh my goodness! Where do I start? I'm not sure what took me so long to read this book. If truth be told, I bought it solely for the cover. I mean, look at that beauty! It sat on my bookshelf patiently waiting for me. I'm an odd duck and can't read a book unless I'm in the mood for it. The reading challenge on Goodreads is what lit a fire under my butt, and after breezing through the Hush, Hush series (stay tuned for those reviews) Mara was practically screaming at me to be read.
I didn't know what to expect with this book. The blurb on the back didn't give me a lot to go on. The flow of the writing was great. I never found myself having to push through boring sections or my eyes glazing over at any blah-blah-blah's. Don't let the size of the book scare you. It's 452 pages of twists and turns, snort worthy sarcastic wit, laugh out loud moments (seriously, one scene I read 4 times because it was freaking hilarious!!), and oh-so-swoony moments with a bad boy that will conquer your dreams.
I don't want to say too much for fear of posting spoilers. I will say that the storyline is unlike any I have read before and will definitely keep you guessing until the very end. Mara is a very likable character that is easy to relate to, and she can sling some creative insults! Noah, the swoon worthy bad boy with a questionable reputation will steal your heart before you realize it's happened. There are a couple of other supporting characters who will wiggle their way into your heart as well.
If you're looking for something different, a book unlike any other, then this is the one for you!
