SYNOPSIS
Two people from completely different worlds are about to be thrown together…
In more ways than one.
She wants to keep her scholarship. He wants to stay on the team. An awkward alliance doesn’t even begin to cover Rimmel and Romeo’s relationship.
But that’s about to change.
It starts with a dare. An initiation. A challenge.
Quickly, it turns into more. But when you’re a victim of your status, there is no room for anything real. The rules are clear and simple.
Stick to your circle.
And never fall in love with anyone on the outside.
MY REVIEW
*4 Stars*
I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.
There aren't many authors on my automatic one-click list, but Cambria is up at the top. I fell in love with her Heven and Hell series and then she blew me away with her Take It Off series with Text being my absolute favorite book written by her (Tattoo is a close second). So when I saw her new book was available for review, I immediately requested an ARC. Once again, Cambria did not disappoint! The thing I love about her books is that they are so easy to read. Starting a new Cambria book is like slipping on your favorite old sweatshirt. Her writing pulls you in and gets you so immersed in the story that you lose track of everything else, and the next thing you know you're down to the last 10% of the book. This is what happened to me with #Nerd.
#Nerd follows the story of Rimmel and Romeo. Rimmel keeps to herself and could be classified as a loner or a nerd. She's going to college to be a vet and spends the majority of her free time volunteering at the animal shelter. She doesn't care about fashion or make up.
Romeo is the campus heart throb. He's the star player for the football team and is pledging to the Alpha Omega fraternity. All the guys want to be his friend and all the girls just want him, period. His goal is to get into the NFL and he needs into the Omega frat to do so because they have NFL connections. Also, there's pressure from his family to pledge the Omegas. Both his father and grandfather were members.
"His shaggy blond hair was darker than usual because it looked damp. The ends of his hair curled up at the base of his neck, above the collar of his jacket....Amusement sparked in his jewel-like blue eyes."
As a fellow Paul Walker fan, I see what you did there, Mizz Hebert. ;-) <3 <3
So anywho...Rimmel and Romeo are thrown together when the dean and the football coach decide that Romeo needs to be tutored 3 days a week because his grades are crap and they don't want to have to bench him. The only reason we're given for why Rimmel has to be the one to tutor Romeo is because it's required of her scholarship. It didn't sound very believable to me, but whatevs, this is fiction right? That little gap wasn't enough to make me not finish the book.
I don't want to delve too much into the plot because I don't want to give anything away. I have the tendency to get carried away and spoil stories. That's right, I'm a spoiler. :P
I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 because while I loved the world and Rimmel and Romeo's characters, the plot was a bit predictable. As soon as Romeo was told what his pledging requirements were I'd figured out what the conflict and plot twist were going to be. That's alright though. I still enjoyed the story and going on that journey with Rimmel. I will say that I was a little surprised by Rimmel's past. It wasn't anything earth shattering, but it did catch me by surprise.
All in all, #Nerd is great and I loved it!
